Week at the Woods

Kiss “N” Ride  as Winter Arrives!

Thank you to those parents who are using our Kiss “N” Ride.   Our staff are doing their best to create a safe and efficient entry.  Please pull up  right to the end before your child exits your car.

We are trying to keep cars from backing up onto the street. Yes, we know patience is needed! Thank you for helping us for keeping all our students safe!

Looking For New or Nearly New Games for the LLC

Our Library Learning Commons (LLC) will be opening as a Mindful Moment Location during first break for students and staff at the end of the month. Students may use the LLC as a quiet spot to relax, refocus or connect with peers. We are looking for donations of new or nearly new board games (e.g., checkers, chess, Snakes & Ladders, Scrabble, Connect Four, Uno, cards) for students to use in the LLC. Please direct any donations to the office or LLC.

Winter Weather

Cold weather is here now! Please ensure that your child comes to school prepared to participate in all activities, including outdoor breaks.. All students will be going outside during the recess. Playing outdoors is an enjoyable and healthy activity when students are wearing suitable clothing. Students can not be supervised indoors.

Scholastic Book Fair

Our Falcons are now counting down the days to our 2017 Scholastic Book Fair!

The Fair will begin  with a Preview Day for all classes in our Learning Commons on Monday November 20th, followed by three days for students to Stop & Shop.

The Book Fair will have extended hours on Thursday November 24th.

Please feel free to visit our Learning Commons on Thursday and take a look at Scholastic’s featured books!

Colours To Create Smiles

Aislyn Ahrens is a Grade 4 student here at Falgarwood Public School who has made it her initiative to donate 1000 new packages of crayons, pencil crayons, markers and colouring books to the children who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

In August, Aislyn was watching the news with her grandfather where the top story was Hurricane Harvey.  She was deeply affected by this.  She couldn't believe that all of those families had to leave their homes - leave EVERYTHING behind.  She also saw the shelters where all of these families evacuated to, to be safe. She noticed that the children looked bored and that they didn't have anything to do there.  Aislyn knew she could help.

Aislyn's favourite past time is colouring and drawing and she knows that when she does this, it brings a smile to her face.  She wanted to donate "colours" in hopes that she could put a smile on the faces of these children who have lost their smiles.

Aislyn set a goal to donate 1000 new packages to the children affected by Hurricane Harvey.

All donations will be sent to Hilliard Elementary School in Houston Texas.  The students are attending a school at an alternate building as theirs was destroyed.

We wish to send donations by the 1st week of December.  Please drop them off to Ms. Harnden in our Library Learning Commons.

Congratulations, Aislyn!

Eco News

At Falgarwood we strive everyday to be environmental citizens of the world! We have recently changed our recycling procedures so that each class is responsible for their own recycling.  Twice a week students bring their blue and green classroom totes down to empty them, rather than having them collected by volunteer students.  This leads to more responsible sorting practices. We hope that our students share this learning at home, with you!  Our Grade 7/8 Green Council students and Mrs. Graham attended the Eco league Conference last month, and will be going to see David Suzuki speak on Tuesday.  Our Grade 4-6 Green team is up and running with Ms. Brough.  Thanks to staff and students!

Things to Know

We no longer need milk bags at the moment.  Thank you for your donations.

We are looking for a nearly new stationary bike for one of our classrooms.

Pauline Harley will be filling in for Sylvia Dodds, as principal, starting Nov. 20.

For these reasons, streets around our school have “No Stopping” and “No Parking” signs installed. Please learn the difference between No Stopping and No Parking and help keep our school area safe for children. No stopping -No stopping means the halting of your vehicle is prohibited, even momentarily and even if occupied. No ...
