Principal's Message

Dear Falgarwood Families,

What a great last day we had at Falgarwood. As the weather brightened up as the day went on,  our spirits were high at our final assembly. The band entertained us, we were taken to Bollywood with Mme Kreczko and her dance troupe and the Me To We team organised the teacher versus student challenge.

Mrs Dodds and Mrs Keen got a pie in the face! Mr D. won the spaghetti eating competition. Mr. Auty and Mrs McCulloch did their best to lead the teachers to victory in Karaoke. Ferris the Falcon was by far the best dancer!

Thank you to all our community for a wonderful year. Your support has been amazing and we look forward to continuing in partnership with you all next year. To our Grade 8 families, all the best for the next step in your journey and we wish you every success in all that you do!

Have a safe, fun and happy summer Falcons.

The Falgarwood Team

  • Getting Ready for September

As as a new school year approaches, we would like to welcome you to the Falgarwood community if you are joining us for the first time. ‘Welcome back’ to our returning families! Learning about your child’s developing needs is always our top priority. Should your child require any special medical or learning accommodations that we do not know about, please contact the administration at the school from August 22nd to discuss how we can ensure the transition, after the summer break, is a smooth one. Please take a moment to review the following information as we hope this will help you as you get ready for school in September.

    July and August

Continue to support your child’s learning by doing a little reading and Mathematics during this long break on a regular basis. Students new to Grades 1-3  have their summer learning package  - check out the calendar of ideas. For families with RazKids reading and Dreambox Math accounts, these on-line learning tools are available all summer. You can also visit the Ontario Ministry of Education website for more ideas for learning at home: and

NEW THIS YEAR: Medication (e.g., inhalers, EpiPen, prescribed medication)

All medication being administered during the school day by students or staff (e.g., inhalers, EpiPen, prescribed medication) must have the required forms signed by both the parent and the medical practitioner who prescribed the medication. Medical form packages were sent home will all returning medical students in June. Please ensure you visit your medical practitioner over the summer to ensure all forms are completed by September 5th. If possible, please drop off any inhalers or EpiPens to be stored at school with the completed medical forms to the office between August 21st - September 1st. If you are new to Falgarwood or require a Medical form package, please pick this up  from the office  between August 21st and September 1st so that it can be completed and returned ready for the first day of school.

    Friday September 1st:  4pm onwards

Class lists will be posted on the school front doors and on our website. You will need your child’s OEN number (found on report cards) to identify your child and their class.

NEW JK PARENTS will be contacted directly by our team in advance of this date.

Tuesday September 5th - First Day of School :O)

    Remember to bring...

-Nut free Snack/lunches (for 2 nutrition breaks,) and a refillable water bottle - we are a GOLD ECO School and we encourage recycling and reusable containers. Try to help us reach our goal of litterless lunches!

-Indoor shoes, school supplies, etc. If the weather is hot, remember to wear a hat and pack rub-in sunscreen in a backpack that your child can carry easily.

-Locker lock:  If your child is in Grades 4-8 they will need a lock to secure their personal items. Please have your child practise opening their lock prior to the first day of school.

-Library books or textbooks …. that you forgot to bring back in June!

Students in older grades are encouraged to bring a change of clothing for gym classes but it is always best to send in extra items to be kept at school, especially socks and a T-shirt. Please name/label EVERYTHING!

Look out for order forms for school ‘spirit’ clothing (hoodies, T-shirts, etc.) coming home in September.

Supervision at Falgarwood begins at 9.00am for all students, with the start of school at 9.15am. Your child’s teacher, and members of our team, will be on duty awaiting your arrival (all wearing bright orange vests). Kindergarten - fenced Kindergarten area

    Grades 1-6 - Junior/Primary blacktop near entrance doors 12, 14

Grades 7-8 - Intermediate blacktop near  entrance door 9

You will be able to identify your new teacher as they will be holding a sign with their name and class number on it. As soon as you have dropped off your child, and they have checked in with their teacher, you can leave at this time if you so wish.

A ‘Kiss ‘n’ Ride’ drop off is available in the front parking lot only from 9:00 to 9:15 in the morning, managed by staff / parents and student volunteers. A reminder that students need to exit the vehicle independently when using the Kiss 'n' Ride.  If you use this service, we escort children to their educators. You can also park close to the school on adjacent streets, but please be aware of parking bylaws so you avoid a parking  ticket.  Parking is limited so give yourself extra time in the event you need to walk a short way. We encourage all our families to walk to school if at all possible - enjoy an active start to your day!

    Late Arrival?

Please arrive in good time for the start of every day, but should you be delayed beyond  9.15am, check in at the front office, as per our school procedures. We ask for your patience as the first day of school is always busier than most!

    Greetings in the Garden

If you have a few moments to spare at 9.15am, join Mrs. Dodds and Mrs. Keen for a cuppa and conversation before you head off for the day in the front foyer area. We look forward to hearing all about your summer!

Your child will be dismissed from their entry location at 3.45 p.m. Please discuss “getting home arrangements” (e.g., pick-up location, walking, bus student) with your children so they are aware of how they are getting home. Kindergarten and Primary students will be released to their designated pickup person. Supervision ends at 4:00 p.m. after which time you will need to pick up your child from the office.

Students travelling by bus will be escorted to their buses by staff to ensure safe dismissal. Please note that buses generally run a little late on the first few days of school due to new routes and multiple school pick-ups. Bus schedules will be posted to before the first day of school by Halton Transportation. Please contact Halton Transportation directly if you have any worries or concerns.

If your child attends the YMCA, staff will have advised you of drop off and pick up procedures. We work closely with the YMCA team to ensure everyone is where they need to be!

Inclement Weather on the First Day

In the event that it is raining on the first day of school, please enter through the entry locations identified above where you will be welcomed by the Falgarwood team and directed to supervision areas and teachers.

If you have any worries or concerns, we are just an email or phone call away.! Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and we look forward to seeing you in September!
