First Day Information - Welcome Back Falcons!

posted Aug 31, 2018, 12:15 PM by Erin Keen

Dear Falgarwood Parents/Guardians:

We hope everyone is continuing to have a wonderful summer. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, September 4. Grade 1-8 students will meet their teachers on the blacktop behind the school. Additional staff will be outside to assist students who may not know which class they are in or are having difficulty locating their teacher.

School starts at 9:15am and ends at 3:45pm. Please note that supervision on the blacktop begins at 9:00am. Students receive two nutrition breaks throughout the day. The first break is from 10:55am to 11:35am  and the second break is from 1:15pm to 2:05pm.

Class Placement

Class lists will be posted today at 4:00 pm on the front doors of the school and on our website (http://fal.hdsb.ca/). You will need your child's Ontario Education Number (OEN), found on their report card. Students who do not yet have an assigned OEN will receive their class placement on Tuesday morning.

Please note that a great deal of time and consideration goes into the building of each class by teachers and administration. When determining placement, we consider academic profile, learning skills, social factors, placement history, and input from parents (solicited in the spring). As a result, we do not accept requests for changes to class placement.

Your child will be dismissed from their entry location at 3.45 p.m. Please discuss “getting home arrangements” (e.g., pick-up location, walking, bus) with your children so they are aware of how they are getting home.

Students travelling by bus will be escorted to their buses by staff to ensure safe dismissal. Please note that buses may be late on the first few days of school.  Our school is the last route of the day for our drivers so we are impacted by delays at other schools. Please contact Halton Student Transportation Services for all bussing inquiries. Their website, www.haltonbus.ca, has plenty of useful information.

Smile, Breathe, Enjoy!

Many of us (students, parents, staff) experience some anxiety when summer ends and school begins. We are fortunate to be surrounded by caring individuals who are ready to help with whatever is required. As a staff, our hope is that our students and families approach the upcoming school year with optimism and a positive mindset.  There is nothing we can’t get through together! Have a great long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!
